Diego Armando Maradona
Famous Argentine football player Diego Armando Maradona was born on 30 October 1960 in the province of Buenos Aires (Argentina). He was a halfback on the offensive team and striker. He played for clubs "Argentinos Juniors", "Boca Juniors", "Barcelona", "Napoli", "Seville" and "Newell's Old Boys." He played in 91 matches and scored 34 goals for the Argentinian national team.
Maradona's sports career came to an end due to drug addiction, as he was forced to leave football for some time because of a disqualification and treatment period. After the end of his playing career, Maradona worked on TV channels in Argentina and Italy as a commentator. From June 2005 to August 2006, he was vice-president of the Commission of the football club "Boca Juniors".
"I disagree with the statements that some doctors have said. Addicts can recover and return to normal life. I know it better than anyone else, because I myself took cocaine, and it happened that this poison eclipsed my brain, and I could only think about it. But I was able to recover, and in spite of the fact that my life is not complete without football, I enjoy it and I do a lot of things as any other normal person does. Cocaine ruined my life and took my football, but I found the strength to move forward and try new things. Therefore society should know that drugs are not the end - it is a bump in our path, which many addicts successfully overcome. Today the internet plays one of the primary roles in the war against drug addiction, that's why I think the online project MayaPlanet is the most important tool to protect people. I hope that the project will realize all goals, and together we will succeed in the fight with this global issue."
