Dashi Namdakov

Dashi Namdakov

Dashi Namdakov is a Russian sculptor, graphic artist and jeweller, and a member of the Russian Union of Artists. Born in 1967 in Siberia near Chita, which is close to the Russian-Chinese border.

1986–1988: Worked at the studio of sculptor Gennady Vasiliev, Honoured Artist of the USSR and academic of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts

1988–1992: Studied at the Krasnoyarsk State Fine Art Institute in Lev Golovnitsky’s class

2000: Held first solo show in Siberia, at the Irkutsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts named after V. P. Sukachev, Irkutsk

2001: Appointed member of the Russian Artists’ Union

2002: Awarded Sculpture Master at the International Festival of Documentary Films, Irkutsk

2003: Awarded a silver medal of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts for his series of exhibitions in Moscow. Awarded the honorary title ‘Siberian of the Year’. Park sculpture Ust-Orda installed in the centre of the town of Ust-Orda, Irkutsk region.

2005: Dashi Art Studio established in Moscow

2006: Awarded the title of Honorary Artist of the Republic of Buryatia

2007: Worked as Production Designer on the film Mongol, that received an Oscar Nomination as Best Foreign Film in 2007. Received the Russian Film Critic and Film Press’s “White Elephant” Award for the Best Costume design in the film Mongol. Received a Russian Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences "Golden Eagle" award for his work as Designer in the film Mongol. Accepted into the Russian Academy of Cinematographic Arts.

2008: Received the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts’ “Nika” award for Best Costume design in the film Mongol (directed by Sergey Bodrov, Sr.). Monument sculpture Khanshaim installed in Astana, Kazakhstan. Monument sculpture Friendship installed in Aginsk, Russia.

2009: Awarded the 2009 State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of culture for the exhibition project Transformation: Sculpture, Graphics and Jewellery of Dashi Namdakov.

2010: Participated in France’s ‘Year of Russia’. Sculpture Golden Shoria installed in Kemerovo, Russia.

2011: Awarded the title of Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts. Monument sculpture Little Buddha installed in the Ivolginsky Datsan (Buddhist temple), Republic of Buryatia.

2012: Monument sculpture Genghis Khan installed at Marble Arch, London.

Dashi’s work can be found in the collections of the State Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the State Museum of Oriental Arts, the Russian Contemporary Art Museum in Moscow, Tibet House, NYC, the Guangzhou Museum of Art in China, as well as in private collections of the Russian President V. Putin, former Tatarstan President M. Shaimiev, former Mayor of Moscow Y. Luzhkov, Head of the Chukotsky Autonomous District R. Abramovich, and in private collections the USA, Germany, France, Great Britain, Belgium, Switzerland, Japan, China, Taiwan and Singapore.
