Evgeny Velikhov

Evgeny Velikhov (born on February 2 1935 in Moscow) - Soviet and Russian scientist, physicist, academic and member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Hero of Socialist Labor (1985). President of the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute", Chairman of the ITER Council (ITER, the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) since 2009.

Since 1961 he has been working at the Institute of Atomic Energy named after I.V. Kurchatov. From 1971 to 1978 he was the director of the branch of the Institute - Magnetic Laboratory of the USSR (in the future Troitsk Institute for Innovation and Fusion Research, from 1991 - SRC RF Troitsk Institute for Innovation and Fusion Research). He worked as director of the Institute of Atomic Energy named after I.V. Kurchatov, Chairman of the Academy for Youth, President of the International Fund "For the survival and development of humanity", president of the "International Centre for Scientific Culture - World Laboratory" in Russia. He also worked in the international educational and training public organization "The Academy of World Civilizations".

In 1972 he founded the faculty of MIPT Aerophysics and Space Plasma Energy Department, based at the branch of the Institute of Atomic Energy named after I.V. Kurchatov, which he leads to the present day. In 1975-1976 he organized a new faculty in MIPT - the problems of physics and energy, where the chair of the plasma energy was moved. In 1976-1986 he was Dean FPFE and since 1986 - the supervisor FPFE.

From 1992 to present - President of the Federal State Institution of Russian Research Center "Kurchatov Institute". Academic-Secretary of the Division of Nanotechnologies and Information Technologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the Federal State Institution of Russian Research Center "Kurchatov Institute", a member of the Russian Paguosh Committee at the Presidium of RAS. Academic of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (Physics Section), of the Russian Academy of Education and Culture, Academy of Security, Defense and Law. Foreign Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1989).

Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1978-1991, and the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1991-1996.

Since 2010 - Member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the "Skolkovo" Foundation.
